On Jan. 26, teachers and students from across Amador met up in the large gym. They promoted a diverse range of both AP classes and electives for the 2026-27 school year to new and returning students.
“I really like how you can see all of your options all at once [at the elective fair], because then you don’t have to go back and look at different pages all over again. You can compare it right at that moment,” said AVHS student Santiago Laredo (‘29).
Presenting the Courses
As the date for elective’s sign-ups draws closer, many find it important to advertise their class to the community. Most teachers find the elective fair to be a great opportunity to do that.
“The Elective Fair is great because it’s a chance for students to get to see the super wide range of electives that we offer here on campus. You know, we have everything from leadership to computer science to world languages to drama, obviously, and art and music, and it’s really cool to be able to see all of it in one place to get a good understanding of what the school is. Any opportunity that I have to meet new students and to see what interests they may have in drama is really important because not everybody knows it’s here, you know?” said Drama and Theater Production teacher Hannah Davies.
Students can sign up for electives for the 2026-27 school year starting Feb. 1 via StudentVUE. The elective fair helped not just students make their decisions about these selections, but also had some appeal for parents.
“We get to ask questions right away and get all the information in addition to the brochures. Online, you just get the information that’s on the brochures but you don’t get to ask questions,” said parent Niketa Gohil.
Gaining Community Interest
Teachers and students representing their electives enjoy having the ability to answer the community’s questions every year. Many appreciate how the fair can gain a larger interest for certain classes.
“[Drama is] a really great way to get better at public speaking and to be able to express yourself in a more artistic form. It’s really fun to be able to get up on stage and be a different character and be able to send a message to people. And even outside of just being on stage, so much stuff goes on behind the stage that can be so beneficial for students to be able to figure out how things such as theater production work,” said AVHS Drama department representative and student Kieran Bassin (‘28).
Many APs and electives are holding meetings this week to advertise their electives, while the school administration has pushed out videos explaining each course. This additional info, combined with the elective fair, is helpful for students school-wide.
“I think it’s a really great opportunity to see all the things that Amador has to offer and be able to talk one-on-one with people that are actively in the class or helping with the class,” said AVHS Leadership representative and student Addison Moe (‘28).
