This Friday, Leadership hosted a Holiday Movie Night, screening the fan favorite Home Alone to bring students together for the festive season and an opportunity to unwind before a busy finals week. Attendees had a variety of snacks and treats to choose from while watching the classic holiday film.
A Festive Night
“We wanted to host a movie night because we want to keep the spirit up in school. We were all trying our best to host a lot of activities in light of that. And this is definitely one big activity where people can chill and relax, but at the same time be spirited for the holidays,” said Junior Class President Soyeon Kim (‘27).
With fewer sports during the winter, Junior Movie Night was a chance for students to come together and de-stress during finals season. The event brought together a sense of community and allowed students to relax in a festive atmosphere.
“I like having events, especially since in winter, we don’t have that many sports events that people go to. So it helps to take a break from academics,” said Junior Class Officer Courtney Widiarto (‘27).
Despite the small turnout, students who attended enjoyed a fun night with friends, and ticket sales contributed to funding Junior Prom, helping to lower the overall cost of prom tickets.
“[It’s important for people to come to the movie night] because it directly lowers prom ticket values…I’d say it also helps students connect. Everybody’s inside right now, and they’re just watching the movie together with their friends, which is really nice and cute,” said Widiarto.
The Big Reveal
Suspense filled the MPR as Home Alone came to an end. Junior Movie night wrapped up with the reveal of the Junior Prom Theme: City of Stars, inspired by La La Land. The reveal video also announced the prom venue, the Oakland Rotunda, sparking anticipation from students.
“I am actually very excited for people to get a first peek into this year’s prom. I think it’s a great prom theme, and we also put posters out for people who did not have social media to be able to see and advertise this event to promote prom and get people to support it,” said ASB member Savannah Stoehr (‘27).
The announcement was met with excitement from students, marking an exciting conclusion to the evening and setting the stage for an elegant and star-studded prom experience for later this year.
“I’m really excited because everyone knows La La Land. It’s a really fun, loving movie. And it makes me more excited for Junior prom,” said Arunika Naha (‘27).
