Last weekend, the Amador Marching Band hosted an Ice Cream Social for its members and their families.  During the event, students had the opportunity to socialize, participating in games and activities, and make purchases to support the Marching Band community.

“I think this is a great opportunity for new members to come and get to know each other and what we do. I remember my first experience with Marching Band.  At the time I was really shy and didn’t know many people, but after getting to know my team and my teachers, it was like I had a whole new family,” said Paul Lee (‘24).

Beyond the social gathering, visitors had the opportunity to purchase cushions, bags, and other handcrafted goods created by parents and organizers of marching band students in an auction format.

“I absolutely love the cushions that the parents made.  They’re really well made and high quality, not something cheap you’d expect something like that to be.  Plus, we really need the money when it comes to funding our team so honestly I can’t wait to get my hands on one of those,” said Logan Gable (‘24).

The Social plays a role in supporting our band squad.  Unlike most sports, marching band is year round, with multiple performances throughout, and gaining funds is key for the band’s success.

“Marching band is expensive. The instruments, the uniforms, the trips, all of it adds up.  Although most parents pay whatever price is necessary, it doesn’t hurt to run events like these to have some extra money for the kids.  Most of the money does end up being used for trips, not only is there the cost of traveling but also the cost to bring all of the instruments along with them,” said a band parent.
