Whenever a new coffee-shop opens in Pleasanton, it is welcomed with open arms by the town’s hard-working employees and busy students. Thus, when Planta—a new Argentinian-style coffee house opened this week, it was an instant success.
“We have the mandala sandwich, are medals are like a specific, like Argentinian East tree that the owners decided to make because they’re from Argentina, so it’s a little bit special.” Cheyanne Clark, manager at Planta.
Planta is an Argentinian style coffee house that offers more than coffee, featuring sandwiches, empanadas, pastries, and salads. Owned by the same owners as Brava Garden Eatery, which is located just a few shops down from Planta, the restaurant further brings Latin American culture into the heart of Pleasanton, California. Compared to other downtown coffee shops, Planta offers a variety of food options besides the
normal pastries that most coffee shops offer. Instead, it focuses on providing customers unique Argentinian flavors that may not be as common to find in Pleasanton, California.
“I worked at [another downtown coffee shop] for about two years. They had a very small kitchen. Obviously, we have a much bigger one, so we have the option to make more food, which is really nice,” said Clark
A Unique Taste
With the unique options on the menu, it can be hard for customers to decide what to order. Still, the Planta workers take pride in their products, and are able to offer recommendations to any first-time customers.
“My coffee favorite is a chai latte; for food, I like the short ribs and cheddar empanadas—those two are my favorites,” said Planta employee Jose Luis (a translation from the original Spanish interview.)
Regardless of the meal customers choose, employees guarantee the food to be fresh, arriving early to prepare the meals.
“We are the only deli downtown….we slice over and meats every morning, and all of our stuff is fresh made every morning,” said Clark.
But beyond the food, what truly distinguishes Planta from other coffeeshops is the environment, which takes elements from Argentinian culture to inspire its design.
“[The atmosphere] is really lively, with the colours and the decor. Everything is so bright, so you kind of feel like you’re somewhere else…like you’re going on a vacation while staying in Pleasanton,” said Clark.
Overall, customers responded overwhelmingly positively to the shop. For many, their first visit won’t be their last, due to the welcoming atmosphere, friendly staff, and unique cuisine that the business offers.
“I really liked the ambiance at Planta; it had a really unique feeling to it. Since it was my first visit, I was impressed by both the food and the coffee; everything was amazing and the different combos in their sandwiches were perfect.” said Naisha Kapoor, Planta Customer.
