Starting off a new season, Amador’s competition cheer team brings energy and focus as they gear up for the season.
“Competition cheer, formerly known as Traditional Competitive Cheer (TCC), is a sport in which teams compete routines showcasing various elements of cheerleading. Each team has their own routine, and teams are judged and scored on technique, performance, and difficulty.” said Head Coach Eileen Drury.
Competition cheer pushes athletes to stay precise, confident, and connecte throughout their routines. The sport moves quickly, and every part of the performance depends on teammates working in sync. With so much happening at once, trust and communication become just as important as the skills themselves.
“It gives us more of a chance to work on stunts from the break from sideline to STUNT season because STUNT is our hardest season. We’re working on some newer stunts and I’m excited to compete them because I’ve never been to a competition, so I’m excited to see how those go.” said team member Grace McVey (‘26).
The shift is from sideline cheer to competition season is intense for many atheletes. With harder stunts and new skills to learn, the team steps into a more intense part of the year. Competition cheer in particular pushes the team in different ways leading up to competition.
“I am thankful to see so much interest in the competition cheer team this year. Amador has a strong history in the sport, winning various national championship titles in previous years, and its awesome to see the athletes so motivated to continue thay legacy this season.” said Coach Eileen.
The road ahead
With many athletes stepping up, the team enters the season with a renewed sense of excitement. The growing interest brings fresh energy and pushes everyone to aim higher as they prepare for their upcoming competitions.
“It gives us more of a challenge and we get to work harder on a specific routine that we get to perform. I want to get better at all of our skills and win nationals.” said Mia DeMichiel (‘27).
The athletes share similar goals as they take on tougher routines and higher expectations. Each practice is a chance to build confidence and sharpen the skills they’ll rely on during the season.
“My primary goal for this season is to see growth in every athlete participating, so they end the season stronger and more educated in the sport than they began.” said Coach Eileen.
The focus on improvement guides the team through the season. They have several local competitions ahead, and supporters can follow their schedule and progress on instagram.
The team stays focused on growth, teamwork, and clean routines. Despite the challenges, competition cheer offers a chance to show the hard work with energy and confidence.
