Katy Clark, AVT Senior Staff Writer

Katy Clark is an Arts and Entertainment editor.  She joined AVHS journalism in the 2021-2022 school year and is currently a senior. Born in Ohio, Katy has learned lessons in adapting to change as she has moved steadily west, first to the booming area of Dallas Fort Worth, Texas when she was 8 and then to sunny California during the COVID 19 pandemic. She has her family by her side through it all with triplet siblings who she looks up to and her dog, Charlie.

Katy keeps up an active lifestyle with daily runs with her friends, using this time to enjoy the sun, the views and to relieve stress. She also loves to read, her inspiration to join the writing workforce. She loves fantasy books where she can immerse herself into new worlds full of magic and things beyond physical reality. She hopes to become a writer one day, working side by side to bring news to the world while writing a book on the side that can inspire the younger generation.

There are noticeable bare sports on the gatorade shelves at Safeway, many different coveted flavors having sold out. However these shelves are more full than over a year ago when the pandemic first struck, when whole walls were seen with no products to display.

Similac, a type of baby formula, is selling for $30 a package, a hefty price for parents, but for some parents similac is the only baby formula that their children can consume. The store managers have placed the item behind a locked glass door in order to keep people from stealing it.

Bread, a simple product consumed by many households in America, has skyrocketed in price according to many American shoppers. People have noticed over the last year the price rising by at least two dollars.

Freezer items, like chicken wings, are becoming harder to stay on the shelves, as families like to stock up on freezer goods during supply shortages. When individuals stock up on a product because they hear there might be a shortage, it causes an even larger shortage of the product, and as a result make store displays look vacant and empty.

The price of meat has increased significantly due to the pandemic, as supply has gone down and demand has gone up. This makes it hard for families to buy steak dinners and hamburgers, as meat has become more of a luxury.

Ramen, which is selling 3 for a dollar, is in popular demand at the supermarket, because it is cheap, easy to make, and preservable. As a result individuals are having trouble finding it on the shelves and store employees are having to continually stock the product.

The conference is held in a new location every time and features countries from all around the world. The first conference was held in Berlin, Germany.
