The PTSA Scholarship is a parent-teacher organization that aims to help students at Amador Valley High School who have devoted their time to working and supporting their school and community. Each year PTSA offers a scholarship to Amador students.
“The goal of the scholarship is to recognize students at Amador who throughout their time at the school have either dedicated themselves to academics or serving their community and just playing various roles in the school and provide support for the next steps that they’re going to take in their education, “ said PTSA Staff Member Mellisa Toh.
The Goal of PTSA Scholarship
PTSA is looking for those who are interested in helping Amador. Joining the program can spread awareness of your contributions to the school. Adults and students are welcome to join as members to help support it.
“I’m just hoping that we would get the word out about the scholarships, so the students who are eligible to apply will. They deserve to have some recognition for either their excellence or contributions to the community. And if you don’t apply, you won’t receive one. So I really encourage as many seniors to apply as possible, “ said PTSA Staff Member Natalia Badger.
PTSA also takes donations that could help benefit the scholarship. Anyone can donate enough funds to help raise the scholarship amount. Additionally, students and teachers can get better materials from these donations. This leads to better teaching opportunities and academic skills.
“Every year the PTSA budgets a certain amount of money for scholarships. PTSA takes donations, so you don’t even have to be a member to make a donation. But any money that comes to us gets dispersed across our budget, and one of the items on the budget is the scholarship, “ said Toh.
Other organizations
The PTSA scholarship isn’t the only scholarship aimed to help support students. Other organizations hold their own scholarship with goals to raise enough money to help support academics.
“There’s a merit scholarship that one goes to students who have excelled academically. And then a community service scholarship. And the community service. Scholarship has different criteria, and so we want to recognize the kids that have done a lot, not only at Amador, but across the community in Pleasanton and around the Tri-Valley, “ said Executive Vice President Rosabel Basmadijan.
These scholarships are an effective way to help support students in the beginning of their college journey. PTSA’s goal is to have more students take advantage of opportunities like this.
“Students who have spent their time in school supporting their fellow students, and being a part of the community, helping organize things, or just making Amador a better place for everybody, it’s a good thing to send them off to college or their further education, if they apply and get a scholarship. It’s like giving back to the people who have supported them, “ said Toh.
