Every Monday in room B-2, the AI Club meets to learn about the latest advancements in AI, or artificial intelligence. The club believes that the rise of AI in the real world should motivate students to learn more about this controversial but important topic.
“Every week, we teach all of our students here about a new concept in AI. It could be something that’s recent. We gave a lesson on ChatGPT when it first came out, and similar topics. But nowadays, it’s things like image classification and things that are more cutting-edge,” said AI Club Officer Sid Shah (‘26).
Beyond ChatGPT
The AI Club explores the wide range that modern artificial intelligence covers today. Not only do they learn the basics, such as ChatGPT, but also the making of AI in the real world, such as self-driving cars and Siri.
“We also spread awareness on machine learning models and how they’re leveraged for real-world applications and stuff like that… We go over Python, and then also a lot of online resources, like libraries that can be used to help create those applications,” said AI Club Officer Saurabh Jorapur (‘26).
AI in the real world
AI Club primarily focuses on the future benefits that AI can hold for our society. This includes predictions on how companies are performing, categorizing media, and much more.
“We also definitely have real-world projects as well. So we’ve done, in the past, Titanic survival prediction, and then stock prediction algorithms, game classification detection, all on real-world datasets,” said third AI Club Officer Srijon Mandal (‘26).
The club also recognizes the growing use of AI in all fields and how it’s becoming a discussion point in many creative industries. They feel that this is a major reason the club exists.
“AI is definitely one of the biggest fields right now, and it will continue to be with all these recent advancements. So it’s definitely necessary that people know what AI is and learn how to use it. Because I feel like right now, a lot of people just know the high level; They’ve heard of ChatGPT, but they don’t know how it really works. And so if you want to go deeper into the field of AI, I think it’s important that you know the math [and] the programming behind all of these things,” said Mandal.
Future events
The club is not slowing down its pace, as they’re planning a series of events for the future. These events consist of not just tutorials on the latest AI, but also possible competitions and presentations.
“We’re trying to get another AI hackathon, large-scale, either [collaborating] with other schools or just ourselves, and also some more workshops, because right now we’re teaching other high school students, so teaching middle schoolers as well, exposing them to it, [is what we have planned,” said Shah.
