To raise money for Amador Valley’s competition civics’ trip to Washington D.C. this April, Zachary’s Pizza held a fundraiser on Tuesday, March 7. The event donated 15% of that day’s sales to the state runner-ups

“Ms. Sklar called Zachary’s to set it up, and they accepted,” said Simran Pandey (‘23), AV competition civics member.

Families throughout Pleasanton showed up to support the competition civics team. And by 6pm, the restaurant was already almost full.

“I’ve never been to Zachary’s before, but it was really good. I’m glad I got to try it thanks to the fundraiser,” said Krishi Jaladi (‘24)

However, to send Amador to D.C, the team needs more funding for the chance to win nationals back-to-back.

“The trip to D.C. is very expensive. Raising this money is super important to relieve some of the financial stress from our parents,” said Pandey

Meanwhile, the state champions at Foothill, also need donations. Therefore a joint fundraiser for Amador and Foothill will take place on Thursday, March 16, at Livermore’s Vine theater.

“Profits from ticket sales will go towards both Foothill’s and Amador’s We the People programs,” said Foothill’s competition civics team in an Instagram post

Tickets for the event, a showing of the movie Legally Blonde will be $16 online or $20 in person.

“We need support. We’ve worked really hard these past few months, preparing for this moment. It’s truly a once in a lifetime opportunity that we would all like to enjoy to the fullest,” said Pandey.

As both Amador and Foothill’s competition civics programs have prestigious histories, both teams are working for the chance to bring another trophy home.

“We have our eyes on the prize,” said Pandey.
