Trump pardons 143 before leaving office

Kennedy Mayo, Senior Staff Writer

In President Trump’s final 24 hours in office, he decided to pardon 143 people. He pardoned 74 people and shortened the other 70’s sentences.

Some of the more notable names of the 143 pardoned are Dwanye Micheal Carter Jr. “Lil Wayne”, Bill K. Kapri “Kodak Black,” and Steve Bannon. “Lil Wayne” and “Kodak Black” are very well known in the music industry, and Steven Bannon is his former chief strategist.

Lil Wayne was granted a pardoned because “he pleaded guilty in December to a federal weapons charge after he carried a handgun from California to Florida on his private jet. Due to past felony convictions, he is barred under federal law from possessing firearms. The charge carries a maximum prison sentence of 10 years,” said MSNBC writers Yuliya Talmazan, Rachel Elbaum, and Sara Mhaidli.

Another reason why he was pardoned was that he supported Trump throughout his presidency and his campaign.

“Kodak Black” was sentenced to 46 months in prison after he bought four firearms with false information. There is no evidence of him showing any type of support for Trump, but he also received a pardon.

One of Trump’s finals acts as president was deciding to pardon Steve Bannon. Bannon served as White House chief strategist for the first seven months of Trump’s term. Bannon was granted a pardon even though there were concerns that he was connected to the Capitol Riot on January 6.

The last two celebrities that were on Trump’s pardon radar were Micheal “Harry-O” Harris and Albert Pirro. Harris was known for singing rappers such as Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre. He nearly 30 years in prison because he attempted murder and had drug trafficking charges. Pirro was a former Republican Power broker. Albert Pirros’s ex-husband was of Fox News was pardoned for tax crimes that are 20 years old.

Trump has issued far more pardons than former President Barack Obama. Trump issued 143 while Obama issued 94. He left the White House with many legal issues because of the people he pardoned.
