Groundhog Day dates back to the 18th and 19th centuries, when it began as a Pennsylvania German custom in southeastern and central Pennsylvania. It happens every year on February 2nd, predicting the arrival of spring depending on whether or not a groundhog sees its shadow or not. A few weeks ago, Punxsutawney Phil predicted six more weeks of winter after seeing his shadow during the annual Groundhog Day ceremony. Tune in as Emma Luey (‘27) and Claire Shriber (‘27) explore the Phil conspiracy and unpack the over-century-old tradition.
