Last weekend, on October 11th, the Foothill Fizza and Amador Dhamaka Bollywood Fusion teams hosted an all-inclusive Bollywood Night from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Foothill multipurpose room. The event featured a DJ, a dance floor, food, drinks, and arts and crafts activities. Attendees celebrated Indian culture through music, dance, and Bollywood trivia contests.
A Moment with the captains
“I really like connecting to my cultural roots, but also it’s a great social space where I can get advice from older students and talk to people across grades,” said AV Dhamaka Team Captain Dharshan Sharma (‘28).
Bollywood Night was about more than just dancing. It offered a space for students of all backgrounds to engage with Indian culture while also forming connections across grade levels.
“I’ve been involved in Bollywood events since I was a child. I’ve been doing lots of dancing and similar things of that nature. I also love showing out for my community and supporting my friends who are on the team,” said Foothill Fizaa Team Captain Shreya Sakdeo (‘27).
The event created an atmosphere of inclusion. Organizers added activities for every personality type, from introverts to extroverts, ensuring that no one felt left out during the evening.
“We made an optional dress post. And we added many activities. For example, if you’re an introvert, there are arts and crafts, and if that’s not for you, there’s games, there’s food, there’s photos,” said Sakdeo.
Community involvement
Though the high school Bollywood teams were the primary organizers of the event, students not part of the teams could volunteer their time to help set up the event and manage the attractions.
“I came early, so I helped with volunteering and set up things like the food table and the balloons, so I’m excited for the rest of the night and getting to celebrate like this,” said Pandya (‘27).
The money raised from Bollywood night will support both teams. It will allow for the teams to sustain in upcoming years and continue the awareness of Indian culture.
“I hope that since it’s a new thing, it leaves a good impact on all the people who came. I hope that this event will continue throughout the years,” said Sharma.
