On May 24th, seniors gathered at the Exploratorium in San Francisco for their highly anticipated annual senior ball. As the sun set over the bay, students arrived in their elegant gowns and sharp suits, ready to make the most of their evening.
“I was really looking forward to the ball because I wanted to wear a pretty dress, take pictures, and hang out with my friends. I feel like it hasn’t hit me yet that I’m graduating and I want to make the most of the time left and have fun with my friends,” said Tanishka Tambe (‘25).
Inside the unique venue
The seniors had the entire Exploratorium to themselves. They got the chance to wander through the museum, exploring interactive exhibits and experimenting with bubbles, mirrors, and optical illusions. They also had the chance to step outside and pose for photos with the iconic Golden Gate Bridge in the background.
“My favorite part of the entire night was taking pictures in view of the bridge with my pretty girlfriend,” said Skye Kazempour (‘25).
Hard work pays off
A DJ kept the energy high all night, with a lively mosh pit where students danced and celebrated one of their last moments together. The menu featured a wide variety of options, from savory pretzels to a decadent chocolate fountain. The event’s success was a result of months of careful planning by Leadership.
“We have been planning the ball since the first day of school this year. The hardest parts were deciding how to effectively make use of the budget and finding chaperones. But everything worked out in the end. It was a good last event for the senior class,” said leadership student Kathryn Covert (‘25).
Lessons learned
Even though students have the opportunity to attend multiple dance events throughout their high school years, each one brings something new to learn and experience. Senior Ball is exciting both in theory and in practice, but it can also feel overwhelming at times—with everything from getting ready and coordinating photos to making sure you arrive on time.
“It was chaotic, I will say, because we had a set time to get ready, finish, take pictures, and all that and we did not meet those time requirements. But we luckily still arrived on time. I would tell future seniors that if you’re getting ready with your friends, start getting ready earlier,” said Francesca Lam (‘25).
