Every April, School Library Month is celebrated nationally. At Amador, our librarians are booked and busy, providing resources and support to students and teachers alike.
“[The library] is a safe place for everybody. This is a comfortable place for anybody to go. Everybody comes to the library when they need help,” said library assistant Lisa Kroll.
Before the Books
Although they have now found their place amongst students and books, Amador’s librarians were not always shelving and cataloging. Erik Scherer worked as a teacher at Irvington High School. Ms. Kroll was a corporate buyer for a hardware chain and a mother.
“I was home with my kids for a really long time, so I decided that I wanted to be part of other kids’ lives… I love books, and I love students. So it’s a pretty easy fix,” said Kroll.
In Scherer’s case, he decided to become a librarian because he enjoyed the connection.
“The librarian [at Irvington High School] played an instrumental role in helping students and teachers…And that inspired me to think of the library as a way to work with students and teachers in a way outside the classroom,” said Scherer.

However, Scherer and Kroll do more than just work with books.
“I brought the green screen room… I also worked on the two labs. Before, those were computer rooms, and they did not have projectors. And at first, people were reluctant to put projectors in those rooms. However, we managed to make that happen,” said Scherer.
Besides its practical uses, Scherer also finds the library to be a beautiful addition to Amador’s campus.
“The space is just so gorgeous and that really reflects the community. Pleasanton really loves its libraries, and they made a big effort to make sure that this building was as beautiful as possible,” said Scherer.
Off-campus, both librarians have their own hobbies and interests. Kroll spends time with her children, and Scherer is an avid traveler.
“This summer, I’m going to go on a pilgrimage route in Italy. And so I’m going to walk from Pisa all the way down to Rome,” said Scherer.
Whether you want help on an assignment, a new book to check out, or a place to record a video, Amador’s library and librarian team are happy to help.
“We say if you need something from our little library, it doesn’t have to be book related, and we mean it,” said Kroll.
