On March 12, the two bakeries, Sprinkles and Crumbl, released St. Patrick’s Day-themed treats! With Sprinkles being a bakery known for their unique cupcakes and Crumbl known for selling flavorful cookies, we were excited to try them out.

Located at City Center Bishop Ranch in San Ramon, Sprinkles is decorated with bright, warm colors and has a very welcoming atmosphere. The smell of freshly baked beckons you to place an order.

The shop has an interactive method of ordering. You order through a self-checkout iPad, and the employee will prepare your dessert and deliver it to you. The employees are very quick and effective in getting the customers their orders. It only took us two minutes to receive our cupcakes.

We ordered their special Irish Coffee Cupcake ($6.50), a special menu option for St. Patrick’s Day. This festive cupcake has a coffee cake coated in green, rich frosting, marshmallow filling, and a four-leaf clover placed on top.

The first bite of the Irish Coffee Cupcake isn’t what you expect. The coffee flavoring isn’t strong, and its only saving grace is the marshmallow filling that brings it together. The thick layer of frosting on top was overpowering. The cake itself was very dry and did not have much flavor. All in all, this cupcake, unfortunately, did not live up to expectations.

Next, Crumbl, located in San Ramon at 152 Sunset Drive, also had holiday-themed treats. They have three special cookies: Mint Brownie, Mallow Creme ft. lucky charms, and Sugar (Gold Coin).

We started off with the Mint Brownie ($4). It was a chilled cookie covered in green frosting with chocolate drizzled on top. The cookie itself was a heavy, doughy, chocolate cookie. The mint frosting was perfectly layered, not too much and not too little. When we took a bite, it was an explosion of flavor. If you are a fan of mint and chocolate, you will enjoy this cookie.

Next up was the Mallow Creme ft. Lucky Charms cookie($4). It was a tasty, warm, macadamia nut cookie topped with a cream cheese frosting. The Lucky Charms sprinkled on top added an extra crunch and flavor, but the frosting was very heavy and overpowering. Although macadamia nut cookies are not our preference, this cookie was still a tasty option that would be great for macadamia nut lovers.

The last St. Patrick’s Day option was the Sugar cookie ($4). A buttercream frosting and a chocolate coin covered the top, and the chilling of this cookie added to the delicious flavor. Despite it being a very basic cookie, the treat was still worth the drive, and the gold coin added to the festivity and uniqueness of the cookie.

Both stores sell different types of baked goods, but we preferred Crumbl over Sprinkles because of the price and quality. At Crumbl, you get more for your money. The cookies melt in your mouth and are more on the cheap side, while the Sprinkles cupcake was ordinary and expensive for a singular item. Crumbl cookies are also large enough to share with multiple people. However, in the end, it comes down to if you are craving cupcakes or cookies. Both locations are great options, but Crumbl had our favorite St. Patrick’s Day-themed treats.
