Overview

On February 18th, Uncharted released exclusively in theaters worldwide. The action-packed movie has made headlines as it stars major actors such as Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg.

The Story

In Uncharted, the myth of explorer Ferdinand Magellan and his crew amassing a fortune of $5 billion in gold is put to the test. The story goes that the treasure was then lost by the House of Moncado 500 years ago and never found.

After studying this tale their entire lives, Victor “Sully” Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) recruits Nathan Drake (Tom Holland) to embark on an expedition to find it.

They have to face countless obstacles, including getting to the gold before Santiago Moncada (Antonio Banderas) and Braddock (Tati Gabrielle). If Nate and Sully are able to solve one of the world’s oldest mysteries, they could find the lost $5 billion and Nathan’s long-lost brother (Rudy Pankow), but trust definitely has to be built.

Pros and Cons

Though the plot line was adapted from the Playstation Uncharted game series, the movie did not do justice to it. The movie was very rushed, but slow at the same time. Nate and Sully were able to figure out clues and locations unbelievably quickly, which is different from other treasure-finding movies like Indiana Jones.

Naughty Dog Studio and Sony Interactive Entertainment also had poor casting choices. Though Tom Holland is able to do the action scenes well, his personality was not a good fit for the role of the adventurous and daring Nathan Drake. The characters’ lines felt stiff and many of the voices did not fit well with the scenes. Also, Holland’s scenes shared with Mark Wahlberg’s character felt forced.

Uncharted did a good job at keeping you on the edge of your seat with unexpected double crosses and back stabbings, but those moments and the fighting scenes were the only exciting parts of the movie. A majority of the scenes were boring and mind-numbing.

Verdict

Overall, even with the double crosses, the rushed storyline and poor casting made the movie uninteresting. Uncharted definitely did not live up to the hype brought with casting Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg.
