On January 20th, his first day of presidency, president Biden issued a new policy allowing transgener women to compete on girls sports teams.

The order states “children should be able to learn without worrying about whether they will be denied to the restroom, the locker room, or school sports.”

“I agree with this policy for the most part, however, I think that it would be unfair for a cisgender woman to have compete against a transgender woman that has just transitioned or undergone puberty. I think that this rule can be applied to those who have transitioned before they have undergone puberty as they will have no physical advantages to cisgender women. I completly agree with the other aspects of this policy and I think it’s great that Biden took immediate action to help the transgender community,” said Anonomymous.

This executive order does not impose any current guidelines that would immediately bring change to school sports.

“Considering there are no imposing new guidelines yet, it seems as if the system will not budge. But since it has been a topic of discussion for many years, and there are many success stories of female athletes on male dominated teams, and vice versa, I believe that change will approach in the next few years to the school sport guidelines,” said Ria Wadmark (‘22).

The order also states “All persons should receive equal treatment under the law, no matter what gender identity or sexual orientation.”

“Equality among all genders, races, and sexual orientations is such an important topic of discussion and essential to bringing people together. Any gender and race can excel not only in sports, but in all aspects of life. If someone is gifted at their task, they should be given the same opportunity as anyone else to advance in their strengths,” said Wadmark (‘22).
