From sports clearances to accounting, Student Activities Secretary Meghan Andersson plays a vital role within the school. Her impact is not always visible, but is largely felt throughout the school. Behind the scenes, the logistics of student activities run quietly like clockwork.
“Every day is completely different. I start going through all my paperwork I have. If there are any bills I need to pay, I check the mail, and see if I have any invoices. Right now we’re doing sports clearances, so that takes up a lot of time,” said Andersson.
Before Amador
Prior to her position at Amador, Andersson built a background in organization and community engagement through an entirely different role. Now, she applies the same skills to ensure efficient operations at the Activities Center.
“My husband is my inspiration. I worked at a veterinary center for ten years and I loved working with animals, but my schedule was all over the place. My husband is a teacher at Dublin High and I was just so envious of his schedule. So I started looking at school jobs, and I’m so happy I made the change,” said Andersson.
The role comes as a full circle to the place where everything began. Andersson took an unexpected path and now drives essential efforts in administrative work at the Activity Center.
“I’m so happy I made the change. I’m an Amador graduate. I never thought I would end up at Amador. But now that I’m here, this is where I want to be for the rest of my life,” said Andersson.
On the Clock
This role involves more than what meets the eye. Many activities, clubs, and sports would not be possible without the work of the staff behind the Activity Center.
“You have to have an eye for detail. You have to be thorough; you have to be organized. We have over 32 sports teams [we] work with and do their financials for. We have over 70 active clubs and we’re just about to add 20 more,” said Andersson.
The Journey
Due to her hectic and relentless schedule, Andersson rarely has a moment to spare. Nonetheless, she is one of the reasons why Amador continues to host unforgettable events for students to enjoy.
“We have journalism. We have a yearbook, we have all the dances, all the events on campus, and we never have a break. It’s always one thing after another, but it’s everything that makes high school memorable. That’s what I love,” said Andersson.
