Under Foothill’s stadium lights, Amador Valley’s flag football team beat the Falcons 28-14, earning their first varsity win.
“Going into the rivalry game, I felt super excited but also pretty nervous because we had to win. If we didn’t, we would not have made it into the E-BAL playoffs or NCS. This game was an all or nothing and it was our rivalry which made the stakes higher. We all wanted to win.” said Avery Butler (‘28).
Although the Falcons to
ok an early lead, the Dons adjusted a
nd eventually made the score 14-14 in the third quarter.
“I think during half time when we were down it was an awakening, as I think the first half Foothill wanted it more than us and we were making little mistakes that they were capitalizing on and we needed to fix that and I think also being down made us hungry to win and to prove ourselves,” said Georgia Brown (‘26).
This comeback was a turning point in the game for the flag football team. It carried post season importance beyond the rivalry.
“This was our biggest goal of the season that we made at the beginning of the year. Both teams only get one shot every year to win it and nobody wants to lose the cross-town rivalry,” said Butler.
This game also featured a large crowd, due to it not only being rivalry, but Foothill’s senior night as well.
“I think at a rivalry game there are always more supporters but also it was their senior night as well so I think there were even more fans and people from school that we know,” said Brown.
With this win, Amador Valley has secured their place in the postseason and left rivalry on a high note. The victory marked a significant milestone for the team, highlighting how the flag football program has progressed since its formation.
