Every school year, Pleasanton has a rivalry game between the two high schools, Amador Valley and Foothill. The entire town comes to the game to cheer for their side of Pleasanton. This year was no exception to a great time, with Amador succeeding in beating Foothill. Amador’s very own Vincent Maiorana (‘26) stepped up and scored six touchdowns, a school record.
“There was a lot of energy; everybody was like really hyped for winning the game, ” said Maiorana.
While Maiorana is already recognized as a standout player, setting this record was unexpected.
“Man, it was crazy, man. Like, going out there and scoring six touchdowns, man. It’s the nervous part, you know what I’m saying, for kids who want to come to Emerson and want to play football, you know what I’m saying? And I feel like, you know, Vincent is a dog, man, so going out there and doing that, man,” said teammate Marc Emerson (‘26).
Maiorana’s performance hyped up the crowd, keeping morale high for students and players alike.
“It was great. It’s always great to get to see the students to enjoy the rivalry game and enjoy us getting a big win. It’s great to have that energy at home. I think it’s a boost for the players and the coaches. I think we all feed off the environment and so on and so forth. The players feed off of the students and the students feed off of what the players put out on the field. So it’s great to see it. It is great, yeah,” said coach Christian Williams.
Maiorana performed well during practices and scrimmages prior to the game, giving his coach and team confidence.
“Yeah, Vincent had really talked about having a big week and just wanted to go out with a bang in his last big rivalry game across town. Okay. Yeah, his last big rivalry game across town and just came into the week of practice with a lot of energy and practiced really hard. So I thought he would definitely go out and put on a good performance. I wasn’t expecting the all-time performance like he put on, but it was great to see,” said Williams.
