On October 4th, Royal Theater Academy will be partnering with the City of Dublin to perform in “Graveyard Grooves,” a Halloween show fundraiser event where performances of spooky musical numbers will help raise money to support the arts.
“RTA is always in conversation with the City of Dublin about ways to partner, and since the city sets aside a few dates each year to showcase local arts programs, we were invited to create something for their October slot,” said RTA founder Trenton Torain.
Fundraising for greater accessibility
Graveyard Grooves will be a one-time performance with all proceeds continuing to support RTA’s overall mission: nurturing the artist in everyone by keeping low-cost, short-term performance opportunities available for the community.
“This year’s fundraiser will support scholarships, ASL-interpreted shows for accessibility, new studio floors, and small renovations to help cut costs and build a stronger community space for our productions,” said Torain.
The spooky, Halloween-themed fundraising mash-up will feature recognizable songs from across the musical world, stringing them together to create one cohesive plot. With tickets currently on sale, Graveyard Grooves is gearing up to be a success for both the audience and the cast.
“It’s such a supportive environment… You don’t really have to know anybody very well to feel welcomed and to feel like other people are supporting you and cheering for you. That’s what I really love,” said cast member Camille Wong.
Growing the theater artist inside everyone
RTA’s overall goal of “nurturing the theater artist in everyone from the inside out” also aligns with the goals of Graveyard Grooves. By creating such a welcoming community, the cast of the production has never felt as connected.
“The RTA community is special because it’s very supportive, even if you’re new. It’s a perfect place to go if you don’t want a super competitive [experience, but still want] support,” said Maya Gutierrez, another cast member.
Through its scary stories, scary songs, and daring dance numbers, Graveyard Grooves aims to support both Royal Theater Academy and the City of Dublin. It will be an exciting performance for all ages with constant thrills around every corner.
“If the city will have us, we’d be absolutely grateful to continue partnering with them on events like this annually. RTA is rapidly growing, and we have a lot of exciting things in store for our community in the next year! We always keep our communication open with the city, and want to do whatever we can to elevate the theatrical offerings in the city of Dublin,” said Torain.
