Last Friday, around 2,000 students filled the stands as Amador dominated Foothill, winning 45–29. The Dons’ strong defense and fast-paced offense silenced their rivals. Cheers began as Amador broke the long-standing “home game curse” and turned the annual rivalry into a night of FNL pride.
First-Year Students Experience the Rivalry
“I’ve always heard of it. I’ve never been to one of these games in my first time, actually, but I really do enjoy the dynamic of Foothill and Amador together,” said Shienn Benoit (‘27).
Benoit, attending his first rivalry game, explained how the tradition connects students and creates a bond across the schools.
“I do know that most people I like actually think it’s funny, they make it actually kind of interesting by doing stupid things to each other and whatnot. It’s a really cool dynamic, all right. I just love it,” he added.
A Principal’s Perspective
Even as a former Foothill administrator, new Amador principal Mr. Malcom Norrington was quick to show his pride.
“I’m a Don. I’m a Don to the day I die. Now that’s good to hear. So, you know, I love Foothill, but I absolutely love and am in love with Amador Valley High School, and I’m proud to be here,” Norrington said.
He also reflected on how the game unites both schools and the Pleasanton community.
“This is an opportunity for us to excel, but also, really, it’s a great opportunity for the community to come together… it’s good for all the students of both high schools to come together and to cheer and rally for their teams and then go out and enjoy one another’s company afterwards,” said Norrington.
Don Squad Brings the Energy
The Don Squad student section brought nonstop energy to the stands. For many students, the rivalry means more than just football.
“Personally, it’s awesome to get out there and really support the school, especially in front of everyone like this. It means a lot to you to represent, like my community,” said Don Squad Member Nate Kelly (‘26).
Rivalry History and the Road Ahead
Amador and Foothill have battled in a tight rivalry for years, but after an upset victory in 2023, Amador has had a decisive victory in 2024 and has continued their streak with this thrilling game. Foothill tried to rally near halftime, but Amador’s defense held strong. The Dons closed out the game with confidence and control.
“We’re gonna win like there’s no doubt in my mind, and we’re gonna work for that win, and this is gonna just be the start of another championship run,” said Norrington.
