For the last 20 years, Mr. Amador, a student-run non-profit organization, has been raising funds for charity. The organization fundraises for the George Mark Children’s House, an organization dedicated to caring for children with medical conditions.
“The goal [of Mr. Amador] is to help raise money and awareness [for] these young children who are in need. There’s a lot that takes place, like all the practices, all the directors, all the students and the people involved – even the advisors,” said AV Engineering teacher Eric Ra.
Nathan Marek (‘26), the 2025 Mr. Amador winner, is now head of the committee. Marek is not the only member of his family involved – Sara Marek, English teacher, is among the organization’s teacher advisors.
“I really fell in love with the program because it really goes [to] a good cause. I’ve been involved with it for a little while now. I want to take it a step up, really help plan it, facilitate fundraising, [and get] the most amount of money as we can,” said Marek.
Selection Process
For the success of Mr. Amador, a team of students plans and fundraises for the end-of-year performance. The Mr. Amador committee is exactly that – though not everyone can be a part of it. Only a small number of people are chosen to ensure that the program is efficient and successful.
“Everyone applies through an application. Then we go through all the applications and read [for] who has good ideas and good responses. We look for someone who seems like they really care about the cause, and are willing to put in the time and effort to make the program better,” said Committee member Sophie Hansen (‘26).
Impact
Mr. Amador continues to make a big impact on children in need.
“It’s about raising money and…awareness, but there’s also so many other layers that [take] place inwards to the relationships that are built. You’re just amongst the seniors and the different classes of the Mr. Amador students, as well as the advisors,” said Mr. Ra.
