Amador Valley High School celebrated the annual Pigskin event on Friday, September 12th. At Pigskin, Amador clubs and sports teams are able to sell merchandise and snacks, and play fun games to fundraise and advertise. Let’s check out some fan-favorite Pigskin booths.
Popular Merchandise
“This year, for the ASB booth, we will be doing a thrift market kind of thing. We got a bunch of vintage merch that we thought would be cool. It’s going to be like the Goodwill bins, but out on hangers [that] people can just go through,” said ASB president Biruk Menna (‘26).
ASB’s new merchandise approach was popular among the Dons. It caught the attention of many, who enjoyed going through the vintage Amador gear. Sweatshirts were particularly popular.
“Compared to last year, we have a lot more variety in what everybody’s selling. I feel like the booths that are doing the best are the ones with the different spirited stuff,” said Olivia Rowe (‘28).
Rowe worked at the girls’ tennis booth, which sold bedazzled purple sunglasses and handmade bracelets. Many Dons wore the glasses to the football game following the Pigskin event. Other popular apparel items included tube tops.
“We actually love doing the booth as a basketball program because we get to have, like, this team bonding where we make the bracelets, we work together on making our tube tops and everything,” Lucie Apard (‘26) said.
School Spirit
Pigskin is a way for students to get their Amador gear and build up their sense of school spirit.
“I’ve been here [when I was] in middle school, but I feel more of a sense of pride, because it’s actually my school this time,” said Adam Besh (‘29).
In addition, Pigskin is one of the first introductions to Amador culture for freshmen. This is especially important before the first home football game, which follows Pigskin.
“It’s just really cool to see everyone work so hard and then see it actually come together. I’m really excited for the whole year,” said Menna.
