On Friday, September 12th, Amador Valley High School hosted Pigskin. Pigskin is an annual event where families, students, and teachers celebrated school spirit. From sweet treats to spirit wear, Amador clubs promoted their unique flair and showcased school pride on campus. Post-Pigskin, students and attendees headed to the first home football game of the school year.
“We’ve always directed it as if it is a spirit event. Whether you’re a club or you are a team, it’s all about promoting Amador and the individuality of our sports teams and clubs. I can honestly say that amount of spirit that we’ve had over these last ten years is amazing every time,” said AVHS Boosters President Dave Jagoe.
Behind the scenes
The logistics of the clubs and organizations that participated in Pigskin required careful coordination. Through managing communication, parents and club members kept plans running smoothly from start to finish.
“We coordinated this event through emails and multiple planning meetings for ninety booths this year, which is a lot bigger than we’ve had before. Leadership had to reach out to all the clubs to figure out what they were going to be selling,” said Leadership Student Emmi Aguiar (‘27).
During the Pigskin event, the most spirited AVHS clubs and teams have a chance to win $250. Hence the plethora of purple and gold throughout the booths. All clubs went full out as fundraising money is imperative for a successful year.
“Pigskin is important for new clubs especially. We can raise awareness to be able to participate in the activities we want to. We want people to know that we exist,” said president of SGF Savannah Stoehr (‘27).
With a clear focus on school spirit, each booth had its distinctive club characteristics. From every step, planning and spirit intersected to create the event.
“There is a great amount of effort put in by not only parents but also the actual club members creating the spirit for the booths. That is the one thing that amazes us. I noticed every booth was focused on that spirit, where maybe last year was more just informational like we are so-and-so. This year it is: we are AVHS,” said Jagoe.
