The students at Amador Valley High School wear an assortment of footwear to school influenced by style, comfort, and trends.
“I think shoes reflect a person’s style, which is important,” said Allison Chen (‘27).
Different aspects of life influence the brand, style, and type of shoes people prefer to wear on a daily basis. Both practicality and style affect which shoes are more commonly spotted among the shoe culture at amador.
“I try to balance both style and comfort. I pick a shoe that has a nice style, and then I’ll try it on and see if it’s comfortable. And if it’s not comfortable, I’m going to pick a shoe that is both stylish and comfortable,” said Ikshvak Ongulu (‘25).
Shoe brands
In addition to comfort, brand also plays a significant role in what types of shoes are seen most commonly around campus.
“Brand is really important to me because different brands use different materials, and that affects the fit and feel of the shoe,” said Chen.
Because of this particular shoe brands and styles are seen more around campus. Social media and personal preferences play a major role in determining what the shoe culture at Amador looks like.
“I’ve seen a lot of UGGs recently. I don’t have UGGs but, yeah, I see it everywhere.” said Chen.
Certain brands and styles of shoes are often associated with particular groups of people. Not only on campus ,but also in the real world.
“Nike and, like, Air Force are usually worn by people who do sports because they are comfortable,” said Seji Park (‘27).
Personality
Shoes often work in synergy with personal style and preferences, so the type of shoes students wear are dependent on their ideas of personal style. Additionally, the type of shoes you wear affect how others perceive you as well.
“Like in professional settings, when you show up with some sneakers rather than dress shoes. The first impression is definitely different with different types of shoes, and that matters,” said Ongulu.
Overall, shoes are a form of self expression that appear prevelantly at Amador. Shoes are a way to express personal style.
