Amador Valley Softball is off to an incredible 7-1 start to the 2017 season. The team is ranked 12th in the state and 37th in the nation under coach, Teresa Borchard.

The team’s wins have come against Northgate(16-0), Concord(7-0), Rancho Cotate(7-2), Castro Valley(4-0), Archbishop Mitty(8-0), Benicia(2-0), and Granada(11-3). They suffered their first loss of the season against Livermore on Monday with a score of 3-2. Danielle Williams (’18) finished the game with 17 strikeouts, but the team couldn’t hold on in the end.

The Dons kicked off the season playing in The Queen Of The Mountain tournament at the Pleasanton Sports Park. They placed first and only allowed 2 runs throughout the whole tourney. The biggest win in the tournament was against Castro Valley in the championship.

“It was cool to beat Castro Valley because it gave the seniors revenge after losing to them two years ago” said Hannah Myers (‘17).

The big tournament win was exciting, it gave us confidence and momentum going into the season” said Kaitlyn Jones (‘18).

Valeria Torres-Colon (’20) is the only freshman who was pulled up to play with the varsity team this year and is starting in center field.

“The girls have been very accepting and are so fun to be around. After seeing how well we played in the tournament, I think we have a good chance of winning NCS” said Torres-Colon (‘20).

Danielle Williams is playing in her 3rd consecutive year on varsity starting at pitcher. She is currently verbally committed to The University Of Missouri. Williams has let up a total of 7 runs in 8 games so far this season.

“Our team has a lot of chemistry this year. I love my teammates and I know they always have my back. I’m excited for what this season holds for us” said Williams (‘18).

The varsity squad is determined to bounce back after their first loss against Livermore as they play their third league game today at home against Dublin. Be sure to show out and support your Dons!
