On September 13th, many celebrities and influencers arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City for the Met Gala. They celebrated the opening of this year’s Costume Institute’s fashion exhibit, themed In America: A Lexicon of Fashion

“I expect[ed] a lot of futuristic materials and a lot of technology incorporated within the fashion,” said Zoe Wagner (‘24).

This year, many people anticipated the Met after its cancellation last year due to COVID-19. From Yara Shahidi’s jaw dropping Christian Dior look to Gigi Hadid’s flawless Prada look, this year’s Met Gala did not fail to impress fans.

“One of my favorite looks was Lilli Reinhart and she wore Christian Siriano and Jimmy Choo. I really liked the way the flowers represented her outfit. The arrangement was an eloquent arrangement and I think it was really pretty just the way it looked,” said Shambhavi Singh (’24).

Kim Kardashian’s look was a full bodysuit from Balenciaga. Her face was covered, which sparked a lot of confusion and controversy.

“I think Kanye West and Kim Kardashian’s look was not my favorite but that really stood out to me because at first I couldn’t tell who they were and it’s a very unique look. I think it was something I had never seen before,” said Maulika Mehra (’24).

Until the start of the event, the guest list is kept secret, keeping fan speculation swirling. This year’s guest list turned out to include many new names, ranging from TikTok influencers to well respected actors and actresses.

“I wasn’t really excited to see anyone in specific. I was just looking forward to what everyone would bring to the carpet and what they were going to represent for the night,” said Singh.
