GSA (Gender Sexuality Alliance club) has started their weekly meetings again. The purpose of this organization is to reach out and educate as many people as possible, and to create a welcoming and accepting space for the LGBTQ+ youth.

“Students can expect a safe place to hang out with people that they can relate too. We also get involved around campus and off with educating the people around us and spreading awareness,” said Hunter Schiller (‘19), the president of GSA.

A normal GSA meetings includes open discussions about issues pertaining to LGBTQ+, in addition to just friendly conversation and bonding time.

“The GSA was the absolute best part of my 4 years at Amador. For the first few years I identified as heterosexual, but with some soul searching with the help of the club, I was able to realize my true sexuality and be open about who I really am. If you are thinking of joining, you’ll be privileged enough to get to experience support and friendships that are unlike ones that could be found anywhere else,” said Vera Umansky (16’), last year’s Vice President.

GSA meets in the library in Lab B every Thursday at lunch.

An Interview with the GSA President:

What can students expect when they join the GSA Club? Students can expect a safe place to hang out with people that they can relate too. We also get involved around campus and off with educating the people around us and spreading awareness.

What is the main goal the club has? The main goal we have as a club is to educate everyone we can reach. Also creating a safe place for lgbtq+ youth where they feel safe, welcome, and accepted.

What is your favorite thing about the club? I like how everyone is very accepting and everyone just loves each other no matter what in that club and you can feel comfortable around anyone

Is there any upcoming events students can attend? We are starting a PFLAG for families, both supporting and struggling. Our first PFLAG meeting is September 22nd and it will be in the Amador Valley Library at 6:30 PM

How often does the GSA Club meet and where do they meet? The GSA meets every Thursday at lunch in the library. We normally meet in lab B but occasionally we meet in a conference room or the back of the library.
